Keanu Reeves’ mother, Patricia Taylor, is an English and her origin is Essex. His father, Samuel Nowlin Reeves Jr., was born in Hawaii and of Chinese, English, Irish, Native Hawaiian, and Portuguese ancestry. This means that Reeves’ paternal grandmother is Chinese and Hawaiian. As a child, he grew up around Chinese art, furniture, and cuisine. His mother imparted her English manners to him, which he says he retained even after growing up.

Later Ryder pointed out that director Francis Ford Coppola used a real priest in the scene and that both actors actually said their vows. This might mean that they actually got married. Although it’s unknown whether the priest used their character names or the actors’ real names during shooting.

In 2011, Reeves’ book of poems “The Ode to Happiness” in collaboration with artist Alexandra Grant. It was a limited-run book, featuring poems written by Reeves and accompanied by Grant’s explanations for each line. The two have since then gone on forward to work on 2016’s Shadows, a similar poem. They also worked an art project featuring photos of Reeves. All these are now pursuing their own publishing imprint, X Artists’ Books, to showcase titles with a visual aesthetic.
