Amidst ongoing tension from China, armies got approval to purchase 500 million Lethal Weapons

The govt has approved a contingency fund of Rs 500 crore for the purchase of lethal weapons and ammunition to the three forces amidst ongoing tension from the Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh. The central govt has permitted the three armies to buy up to 500 crores of lethal weapons and ammunition as per their requirement. A senior official said that the authority given financial powers of up to Rs 500 crore to the chiefs of the three armies for immediate and emergency procurement of dangerous weapons.

Chinese aggression will get a befitting reply 

China has increased its troops in eastern Ladakh. It was a much-needed demand after the Chinese troop’s violence on the Line of Actual Control (LAC)

It is not the first time the government has given this right to the forces. Earlier, even after the Uri attack, the armed forces were given similar financial powers. In that situation, the Air Force carried out the Balacourt Air Strike. 

The Armed Forces are ready on short notice

This exemption has been given by the government to the armed forces to keep themselves prepared on short notice. After the Balakot airstrike, the Indian Air Force had taken the most advantage of such exemption given by the government. The Air Force has then purchased a large number purchase of lethal weapons. These weapons include air-to-ground and air-to-air stand-off Spice-2000 (Spice-2000) and Strum Ataka missiles. At the same time, the armed forces have acquired Israeli spike anti-tank guided missiles. The army has also procured large quantities of ammunition from the US. 

India’s growing strength and Purchase of Lethal Weapons

Recently the report of the Swedish think tank Sipri was published in which it stated that India is also increasing its stock of nuclear weapons. India’s nuclear weapons stockpile added ten more weapons last year, by the beginning of 2020, India had 150 nuclear weapons. A year ago, in early 2019, this number was reported from 130 to 140. However, India still lags behind China in this matter
