Chhat Puja in toxic foam: On Sunday to mark the end of Chhat Puja, Devotees went on to the Yamuna River in Delhi to initiate the ceremonies. One of the most important rituals of Chhat Puja is, to stand in the waters and offer prayers to the rising sun.
And to commemorate the rising sun, thousands of women gathered at the ghats of toxic white foamed Yamuna River in Delhi. This is what pollution has done to the city. Also, the AQI level has reached its maximum level of hazardousness.
Not only the air, that is polluted beyond the safe limits of human consumption, but also the rivers. The River Yamuna, which passes through the national capital has become a toxic mass of water that is capable of taking lives.
Delhi has become polluted as hell, there is no doubt about it and people have been issued warning against venturing outside and also have been asked to avoid outdoor activities as much as possible to lower the health risk.
How has the Yamuna river in Delhi become so hazardous?
The Yamuna is the main source of water for people living in Delhi, considering the fact that it is one of the most polluted rivers in the world. There are nineteen drains in the capital that flow into the river contributing 96 percent on the total pollutants in the Yamuna. And just 5 percent of the sewage that is discharged into the river is treated. Now the point is, 95% of the pollutants are not treated because it is chemical and industrial waste, which cannot be treated. It can only be reduced to a bearable limit. This poses a serious health hazard.
One most shocking thing to know is, that people are unaware of the toxicity of this foam on the Yamuna River. Some people were found playing with the foam. They do not even know, what is happening around, and what will this pollution do to them.
It is definitely high time now, we need to act fast or this whole planet will strive to death. Becoming aware is the initial step to move forward in the right direction. We cannot blame the government for this, it is solely our responsibility, to think wisely and act immediately. To know more continue on talepost.
