Dhoni’s Contract Suspended: The suspense on MS Dhoni’s playing plans for India was disturbed by news of him not being in the BCCI’s list of Central Contract players. This came as a major shock to the fans and netizens went berserk on this news. As people are still eagerly waiting for him to return in the blue colors for team India, but have not heard from MS Dhoni about his take on his future.
Earlier, 38 years old MS Dhoni had retired from the Test format in 2014 after the Australia series. MS Dhoni shares such a huge fan base that this came as a big setback for his followers. All they were left with now was the One-Day Internationals, T20s and the IPL campaign for Chennai Super Kings.
Removing MS Dhoni from the centrally contracted players was implied by the people as BCCI indirectly dropping MS Dhoni and showing him the way of retirement. The BCCI was bashed and criticized the social media for this movie and it then came up with a clarification on their move saying,
“ One of the top-most BCCI office-bearers spoke to MS and told him about how they are going about in the central contracts. He was clearly told that since he hasn’t played any game in the said period (September 2019 till date), he cannot be included for the time being,”
The actual fact is that for any player to retain its contract have to play a specific number of games. Since MS Dhoni has not played any match since India’s exit from World Cup in England against New Zealand. Therefore he has been omitted from the central contract.
A player needs to compete in a minimum of 3 Tests or 8 ODIs to be eligible for a BCCI central contract, if the former skipper makes it to the T20 squad sometime this year, he might be re-inducted on a pro-rata basis.
But it is not ‘all-over’ for the Indian Legend, as per sources the BCCI selectors have told that a good IPL for MS Dhoni can lead him back into the Indian Cricket Squad for the T20 Cricket World Cup in Australia this year. If the wicketkeeper-Batsman performs well after his long break and considering the experience and records behind him, he can be an easy pick as a wicketkeeper and lower-order finisher.
As per the Indian Cricket Team, he can be a deep asset as he has the most experience of Cricket World Cups. With many youngsters in the team mix, he can be a great person to guide them through his experience and also in the crunch situations; he can bring on his calm-game and get the team to the great positive side.
All in all, the Cricket fans will want him to finish his cricketing career on a high. One of the biggest inspirations and a legend of the game, generations have looked up to him and took cricket and always have wanted to be like him in many ways. A world cup win can a perfect way to wave away from the sport.
