EPL 2019-20: Aston Villa Out of Relegation Zone, Arsenal Sink

In EPL Aston Villa scrapped out of the relegation zone after a win over Arsenal, which assured that Gunners will not finish in the top 7 since 1995.

Dean Smith’s men were quite confident ahead of the clash as on the other side Manchester City thumped Watford for a huge victory which dented the goal difference for The Hornets.

In 27th minute, a lofted corner was provided, which whizzed past David Luiz and Trezeguet fired it in from a volley form the corner of the penalty box, Argentine goalkeeper, Martinez was only a spectator as the ball whistled into the net.

Arsenal seemed more dull and lacked energy after conceding the goal. Villa skipper, Grealish came close in the end of the first half, as his shot just went over the top right corner.

Mikel Arteta’s men needed three points to secure an European spot, but a comeback from the Gunners seemed quite impossible as the team lacked rhythm in the midfield.

The host was keen on grabbing a second goal, after Jack Grealish single handedly ran through the midfield and gave a cutting through to Keinan Davis, who failed to score his first premier league goal and wasted the ball by driving it outside.

Arsenal almost found a equalizer in the 77th minute when a sublime curler from Pepe was delivered from the corner, which was met by a glancing header from Nketiah, the ball struck the inside of the post and jumped back into the gloves of Pepe Reina.

Arsenal failed to keep a single shot on target, whereas Martinez pulled off another save at the dying minutes which denied John McGinn who went for power with his left foot.

Arsenal are having a set-piece woe this season, the Gunners have conceded 21 out of their 46 goals through set-pieces. The defense line looked shaky every time Conor Hourihane stood over for a corner. The goal was especially gifted to Villa as Arsenal striker, Aubameyang seemed out of focus and failed to mark Tyrone Mings in the near post, who flicked the ball to Trezeguet, which was then blasted in.

Arsenal lost their first match at Villa Park since 1998, ending a run of 17 home games without a win. The Gunners have also lost four of their six away matches after the restart. Also, most astonishingly, this the first time since 2016. That Villa did not face a shot on goal.

Up next in EPL Aston Villa face West Ham away from home and Arsenal will host Watford.
