The announcement was made on the Gautam Gambhir’s twitter account. He tweeted, “The most difficult decisions are often taken with the heaviest of hearts. And with one heavy heart, I’ve decided to make an announcement that I’ve dreaded all my life,”.

The whole nation is in a state of sudden sadness, as our country will no longer witness Gambhir on the cricket field.

Achievements

The 37-year-old cricketer stepped down from the position of captain of Delhi’s Ranji Trophy.

The match between Delhi and Andhra Pradesh at Feroz Shah Kotla would be the last match played by Gautam Gambhir to mark the end of his glorious career.

Gambhir also has a bright and successful career at IPL as he led Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and 2014. Gautam Gambhir played 154 matches all over in 11 seasons of the IPL and scored 4218 runs. Gambhir also holds the record for most half-centuries the cash-rich T20 league.

He is by far known as the second best captain as he has 71 wins in 129 matches.
