Glacier Breaks Off in Chamoli: UP Government Authorities on High Alert After Nandadevi Glacier Break Claims 170 Missing Under Flash Floods. Authorities have been asked to monitor water level alongside Ganga River in Uttar Pradesh.

Heartbreaking news came from Uttrakhand’s Chamoli district when 170 people gone missing under floods after a glacier break on Sunday 7th February. NDRF teams are working hard to save lives so far and have recovered 7 dead bodies.

The death toll may rise as there many people still missing who were working for Rishi Ganga Power Project.
State Disaster Response Force DIG Ridhim Aggarwal said that more than 150 labourers working at the Rishi Ganga Power Project may have been directly affected. “Representatives of the power project have told me that they are not being able to contact around 150 of their workmen at the project site,” she said.

Amidst the situations Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved an ex-gratia of rupees 2 lakh from PMNRF for the family of the deceased while the state government too promised financial ad of Rs. 4 lakh each.
