During the Westpac IFFM Awards, Rajkumar Hirani’s, Ranbeer Kapoor starrer Sanju bagged the award for the Best Film. Manoj Bajpayee won the award for the Best Actor for his upcoming film, Gali Guleiyn. Rani Mukherjee was given the IFFM award for the Best Actress for her role in Hichki.
In the movie Hichki, Rani was playing the role of a woman who was suffering from Tourette’s Syndrome got another award at the IFFM for ‘Excellence in Cinema’.
Rani Mukherjee has been in the Bollywood industries for the past couple of decades and is in no mood of slowing
down.
The Rajkumar Hirani film Sanju brought him the award for the Best Director. Sanju, which depicts the life Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, played by Ranbeer Kapoor who brought the tumultuous journey of Sanjay Dutt to life on the big screen got IFFM Vanguard Award.
Vicky Kaushal also won the award for the supporting actor for his character Kamli in “Sanju”. Richa Chadha won the award as well for the power-packed role as a brothel owner in “Love Sonia”. The jury member for the fest included Simi Garewal, Sue Maslin, Jill Bilcock, Nikkhil Advani and Geoffrey Wright.
Wright is famous for his role in Russell Crowe-starrer “Romper Stomper”. He said he feels that “perhaps it has gone from recreation to being serious cinema”.
About the IFFM Awards Festival
The festival at IFFM awards also portrayed the diverse Indian culture with beats of the dhol, performers dressed in traditional Indian classical attires, Odissi dance, Bhangra and other stuff. In the inclusion-themed ninth edition of the gala awarded a Diversity Award to Freida Pinto who came to limelight for her role in Oscar winning movie Slumdog Millionaire.
In her upcoming film she is going to be in a completely new, previously unseen avatar. Love Sonia, directed by Tabrez Noorani opened the event. It left the audience in awe. It also moved by depicting the story around sex trafficking, won the Best Indie film.
A special mention was to Manoj Bajpayee starrer “Gali Guleiyan”. It is the first film of Dipesh Jain’s as a director. The widely acclaimed film in Telgu/Tamil, Mahanati which is based on the life of south Indian actress Savitri, who made a mark in the 1950s and 1960s won the The Equality In Cinema Award.
Richa gave The IFFM Heroes Award, it celebrates real life heroes who have done good deeds. The IFFM began on Friday and Rani Mukherjee on Saturday hoisted the Indian Flag at the Federation House. It also became a stage for a dance competition, bringing the huge and diverse Indian community of Melbourne together. It portrays the unifying power of cinemas.
