Irrfan Khan: A shining superstar made from atrocities and hardships

Can unconventional looks, no godfather in Bollywood and no account of exponential ascent in the business be the recipe for a shining superstar? It’s Irrfan Khan, the performing artist, the individual, the global Indian, the self-made actor. Irrfan khan’s voyage to fame and riches has not been easy for him. But, his success speaks volumes of his commendable persistence. He is acclaimed by the critics and the entire world as the best actor. Irrfan Khan is a shining superstar.

Life Journey

Irrfan Khan is born in Jaipur, in a wealthy zamindar family. His acting career started when he got a scholarship in National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi, 1984. After finishing the studies at NSD, Khan moved to Mumbai and acted in several TV shows like Chanakya, Bharat ekKhoj and several others.  He then appeared in several critically acclaimed films like Such a long Jouney(1998) and several others that went unnoticed. After several failures, Irrfan was on the verge of dropping his career when the London-based director, Asif Kapadia gave him to lead in The Warrior, a historical film. And soon things changed and made Irrfan a known face in the International Film Festival.

Screen appearance

Rog was his first Bollywood role, in 2005 with the critics highly praising his spectacular performance claiming him to be a shining superstar. This was followed by several other films in which he appeared in lead and supporting roles. In 2004, for his role in Haasil, he won a Filmfare Best Villain award. He also received Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. He also won Filmfare best actor of the year award for his role in Hindi Medium. He also won Padamashri and International Indian film academy award, to name a few of his achievements. Irrfan Khan is married to SutapaSikdar and has 2 children with her.

Hollywood debut

In the Ang Lee’s Film adaption of Life of Pi, his role as the adult version of Piscine achieved great critical and commercial success worldwide. His film, The Lunch Box won Grand Rail d’Or at Cannes Film Festival in 2013 and in Hollywood also he emerged as a shining superstar. This Film also received a BAFTA nomination and was Khan’s highest grossing film until then.

Awards and recognitions

He has been associated with many award-winning directors and shared the screen with many Oscar and several other award-winning actors and actresses like Tom Hanks, Natalie Portman Angelina Jolie and many others. He represented India at various National and International platforms. He also became the brand ambassador of a campaign of the state government of Rajasthan, “Resurgent Rajasthan”.

A fight with life

But to our horror, the superstar suddenly announced about being diagnosed with a rare disease in March this year. The rare disease being a neuroendocrine tumour, a very rare form of cancer caused because of abnormal tissue growth in the hormones producing nerve cells. In a Twitter post, Khan opened about his painful journey of cancer. He said that the only thing that is certain is uncertainty. He said that he is undergoing enormous pain and nothing could relieve it. No consolation, motivation nor medicine. He felt extremely exhausted and weary. He is currently in London recuperating from his tumour.

An actor at par brilliance, who has carved out his own path by challenging the typical conventional paths of the Indian film Industry, he changed the rules and redefined heroism. His kind of films has given youngsters in India hope to the youngsters to come back into the Indian cinema. He proved that talent is far more superior to just looks and well-built physique. He has worked in eighty Indian films. And his remarkable works in films led to the beginning of a new definition to the Indian cinema. The screen misses Irrfan khan immensely and we all hope to see him on the screens soon. The entire nation prays for his speedy recovery. This shining superstar has the blessings of millions.
