Kargil War, A day to remember our martyrs. Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan

Vijay Diwas- 20 years ago, on this day, formally a conflict came to an end. The Kargil war, Indian soldiers successfully recaptured the mountain heights that had been seized by Pakistani intruders.

This was the first and last war when India and Pakistan came to the armed conflict after becoming nuclear powers. This war was prompted by the Pakistan Army intruding into India across the LOC and capturing the strategic mountain peaks.

In May 1999, when this war began, it was assumed that the intruders were militants or terrorists and they were not regular Pakistan Army Troops. After a few weeks, it was apparent that the intruders were Pakistan Army.

Vijay Diwas- And the result was, On 26th July, India recaptured all the peaks and the Kargil conflict came to an end. but, we lost more than 500 soldiers in this war.

Local shepherds in Kargil noticed some unusual movements near the mountains, in the first weak of May. The locals passed this information to the Indian Army, which sent a patrol team to find this Information correct or not. and, the patrols find out the presence of infiltrators who had occupied the heights.

At that time, it was assumed that those persons were militants or terrorists, belonging to Jihadi Outfits. They were operating out of Pakistan. The intruders were Jawans and Officers of the Pakistan Army.

The Pakistan Army denied the body of its slain jawans and officers. and they also denied the involvement in the Kargil intrusion. Some soldiers were buried by Indian troops in unmarked graves near the sites.

Vijay Diwas- But, a bombshell tape told us the Pakistan Army’s stories. This tape was having a recording of a phone call between the Pakistan Army Chief General Parvez Musharraf (at that time) and One of his senior generals.

This phone call was intercepted by the Indan External agency, research, and analysis wing. This phone call proved the Pakistan Army’s direct involvement in the Kargil War.

The turning point during the war was recapturing the Tololing peak, as it was overlooked the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh highway and it gave an opportunity to Pakistan’s intruders for planning the strategic highway off. it was recaptured by the Indian soldiers on June 13, 1999.

In this war, India’s Air Force and Navy played an efficient role. here the Air force was there with an offensive capacity and Navy launched its aggressive patrols in the Arabian Sea and it made plans to blockade Pakistani ports.

Stay tuned with Talepost.
