Kofi Annan, former Secretary- General of United Nation, dies at 80

One of the well-known personalities of the world, Kofi Annan, took his breath at the age of 80. He was the first black African leader who led United Nations to its bright future. He also played a very crucial role of being the Secretary-General. He emerged as a strong leader during the time of global threats in the country. It was due to his dedicated and sincere efforts that the terrorist threats became shut along with a more peaceful world. He was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the same.

Kofi Annan foundation passed an official statement on the dismissal of the legend using his Twitter official. The tweet read,

It is with immense sadness that the Annan family and the Kofi Annan Foundation announce that Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate, passed away peacefully on Saturday 18th August after a short illness.”

Annan had a peaceful exit from this worldly life on Saturday morning with his wife and three children by his side. The foundation also paid a tribute to Annan by mentioning some great statements about him. They mentioned,” global statesman and a deeply committed internationalist who fought throughout his life for a fairer, more peaceful world.” They also added in the praise, “During his distinguished career and leadership of the United Nations, he was an ardent champion of peace, sustainable development, human rights and the rule of law.”

Annan was the Secretary-General of UN from the year 1997 to 2006 and was the 7th Secretary- General. Since the year 2007, he was also an active member of a humanitarian group. Considering his active participation, he was appointed as the chairman of the group in the year 2013.

His death brought a shock wave in the entire nation and many popular names expressed their condolences. Addressing Annan as a great inspirational source, the current Secretary- General of UN, Antonio Guterres stated,” He was not only a statesman, he was not only a leader, he was a warm person who would support his friends in difficult moments. He was a true colleague and a true friend.”

Nikki Haley, the US Ambassador to UN, said, “Annan worked tirelessly to unite us and never stopped fighting for the dignity of every person.” She further added, “Kofi Annan devoted his life to making the world a more peaceful place through his compassion and dedication to service.”
