Lal Baughcha Raja is the Mumbai’s famous Ganesh Visarjan which will not be held this year. It has been canceled due to COVID-19 in order to maintain social distancing. The announcement of Ganesh Visarjan was made by the organizers of Ganesh Mahotsav. Every year, in Ganesh Mahotsav there, gathered a lot of crowds so, to stop those crowd the organizers decided to cancel it so as to maintain social distancing due to this ongoing pandemic COVID-19.
Instead of this Ganesh Festival, it has been decided to celebrate ‘ AROGYA UTSAV’ by setting a blood donation camp. Lalbaugcha Raja is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in Mumbai on the 11th day of the Ganesh festival. This is happening the first time in the history of 87 years that this festival will not happen due to COVID-19. SUDHIR SALVI, secretary of the Lalbaug Mandal said:-
WE HAVE DECIDED TO NOT CELEBRATE THE GANESH FESTIVAL THIS YEAR. WE ARE GOING TO CELEBRATE IT AS A HEALTH FESTIVAL. THIS DECISION HAS BEEN TAKEN BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC. IN THOSE 10 DAYS, WE WILL ORGANISE A BLOOD DONATION CAMP AND AN AWARENESS CAMP TO PROMOTE PLASMA DONATION. WE WILL FELICITATE THE FAMILIES OF THE POLICEMEN AND ARMYMEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THE COUNTRY. WE ARE ALSO DONATING 25 LAKH TO THE CHIEF MINISTERS FUND FOR FIGHTING THE PANDEMIC.

He also said that this year they will not keep any idol for worship otherwise people will gather to see it. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra UDDHAV THACKREY thanked all the religious communities for showing restrain during lockdown which includes many festivals.
A few days back, one more popular festival of Maharastra ( DAHI HANDI) was also been canceled due to lockdown. The number of cases in Maharastra recorded less than 5000 and in Mumbai, it has recorded less than 1000 on Wednesday. So, in order to keep the control on this, they canceled all the festivals till September 9, 2021, i.e. until next year Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganpati Mandals decide to celebrate in Feb 2021 during the Magh Chaturthi but nobody agrees to this. most of the volunteers at Lal Baughcha Raja are college youth who will be busy in their examination which will be going to held in the month of February across all the colleges in Mumbai.
Lal Baugcha Raja or King Of Lalbaug is among the popular Ganesha idols visited in Mumbai. Every year, millions of devotees including celebrities visit the pandal of Lalbaughcha Raja to get blessings of the deity. Around 1 lakh people visit pandal every day and donate several things at Lalbaughcha Raja such as gold and silver ornaments.
