He was born on 19 November 1928 in Amritsar, Punjab. His full name is Dara Singh Randhawa. Since childhood, he was of a strong stature, which is why his tendency towards wrestling started to arise. Dara Singh, who was a long-time wrestler in the arena, used to participate in wrestling competitions at fairs and other functions. Gradually, his wrestling started gaining recognition and he became a prominent and skilled wrestler of India.

Soon after gaining a reputation as a wrestler, he moved to the US for professional wrestling. In the US, he dusted off his rivals in many competitions. He defeated many famous wrestlers including the most famous wrestler of his time, Lou Thez.
After coming back to India, he also worked in many films but initially, the actresses felt uncomfortable working with them because they found Dara’s bulky body strange. Rough and tough Dara on the one hand like heroines of Bollywood flowers. As the lead hero, Dara worked in many films, out of which he worked with Mumtaz in 16 films.
The real turning point in Dara Singh’s life took place in the 1980s and 90s when the television show Ramayana changed his fortunes. In the Ramayana presented by Ramanand Sagar, Dara was given the role of Hanuman. This role gave Dara Singh a new identity, even today people call him Hanuman of Ramayana.
After this, Dara also played Hanuman in many religious TV serials. Dara has worked in more than 100 films. He has played the role of a co-actor or father-grandfather in most of the films. Recently, Dara appeared in films like “Jab We Met” and “Ready”.
Dara has three sons named Bindu Dara, Pradyuman Singh Randhawa and Amrik Singh. Dara has won titles such as Canadian Open Tag Team Championship, Rustom-e-Punjab, Rustom-e-Hind. In 2003, Dara Singh was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
