Lionel Messi breaks the historic UCL record and also levels some other records

Lionel Messi breaks the historic UCL record: Barcelona champion Lionel Messi makes history as he becomes the first football player in the world to score a goal in 15 consecutive UEFA Champions League seasons. It was Messi who took Barcelona towards victory against Slavia Prague by 2-1.

Just in three minutes into the game, Messi scores a goal after Arthur Melo passes him the ball inside the 18-yard box. After this, the first half remained silent, didn’t produce another goal. But then during the early minutes of the second half, the Czech champion Jan Boril leveled the scoreline. But all of this didn’t pave the way for a convincing performance from Ernesto Valverde’s side.

Lionel Messi breaks the historic UCL record: Indeed, Barcelona had to rely on a huge slice of luck to retake the lead after Jan Boril’s equaliser. Here we are talking about the own goal by Peter Olayinka. This helped Barcelona to be in the leading position and to earn all three points in a tricky UCL fixture.

With this goal, Messi becomes the third player in the world to score a goal against 33 different teams in Europe’s premier competitions. Two other players to reach this mark are Raul and Cristiano Ronaldo.

These three players are also the top three goalscorers in the history of the premier competitions. Christiano Ronaldo leads with 127 goals, Messi comes second with 112 goals while Raul is third with 71 goals.

Not only this, the 32-year-old veteran doesn’t stop here, he also extended his stay at the top of all-time UCL group stage scorers’ list as he tops the list with 67th goal in the said round. Leaving Christiano Ronaldo in the second position with 62 goals, Karim Benzema, third rank with 43 goals, Ruud van Nistelrooy at fourth position with 39 and Robert Lewandowski, fifth rank with 39 goals.

Lionel Messi is expected to return to his full form disrupting the season with an injury. To know more continue with talepost.
