Significance

In the era of chaos, prosecution and where the freedom was denied, Lord Krishna was born. There was a threat to Krishna’s life by his uncle Kansa, therefore his father Vasudeva sent him immediately to Gokul to his foster parents Nanda and Yashoda. It this day, when Lord Krishna was transferred to Gokul, which is celebrated as Krishna Janmashtami all over India and people also keep fasts because of their strong belief in Lord Krishna.

On this auspicious day, all the temples around the country are decorated with lights and other things. Many Bhajans and Kirtans are performed on this day which also continues throughout midnight.

The timings for the birth ceremony of Lord Krishna begins at 8:47 PM and the same will continue till 7:20 PM on 3 September. The Puja time is 11:57 PM on 2 September and will go in till 12:48 PM. Dahi Handi celebrations will begin in Maharashtra the day celebrations of Janmashtami ends. All the celebrations of Krishna Janmashtami take place during the midnight as Lord Krishna was born to Devaki at midnight.
