Delhi Metro New Guidelines: Due to COVID-19, everything was closed since March because of lockdown. So, after 6 months Delhi is going to resume its metro services from 7 September onwards. This announcement was made by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) chief Mangu Singh on Wednesday. It was done in the presence of Union Minister and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri.

In order to avoid overcrowding at the stations, the Delhi Metro Corporation has released metro new guidelines for running rails. The Metro will run in three phases. The timings are:

  • 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM till 10th of September.
  • In phase 1 only the yellow line of Delhi metro railways- From Samaypur Badli to Huda City Centre will be functional.
  • On the 11th of September, the metro will run from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
  • On the 12th of September, the metro will run from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
  • The rest of the remaining routes of the Metro- Blue line, pink line, and Gurgaon line will start from the 9th of September.

The Metro New Guidelines are as follows:

  • People will be allowed to enter the station through the selected gates in proper queues and equal gaps.
  • Every person will have to wear masks.
  • The authorities of Metro stations will encourage people to download the Arogya Setu app, though it has not made compulsory.
  • Thermal Screening will be done and if anyone found with the symptoms of flu will not be allowed to enter the station premises.
  • Not more than 3 people will be allowed inside the lift.
  • Every area of the station will be sanitized frequently.
  • A distance of 1 meter is to be maintained between 2 persons standing and seats to be left vacant alternatively.
  • The temperature inside the coaches will be 24 to 28-degree celsius.
  • The parking facilities will not be available at the stations so as to avoid overcrowding.
  • No token facility will be available.
  • Those having smart cards are eligible to travel.
  • To avoid contact between commuters and metro employees smart cards need to be recharged online.

Delhi Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot quoted:-

For the time being, no token will be issued to passengers due to a high risk of the virus spreading through it. There will be a system of purchasing smart cards at every station and passengers will be able to travel only with smart cards.

If we find a lack of social distancing, crowding of trains than we will review the metro arrangement. I am quite confident that people will weigh their options and follow the guidelines in place. If someone defies the guidelines to wear a mask or social distancing, there are enough norms in place. The metro act provides for punitive punishment.
