The 9 days of Chaitra Navratri are dedicated to the 9 forms of Lord Durga. People pray to the Lord to receive all the 9 powers represented by the 9 different forms in order to prosper. This Chaitra Navratri 2021 will end on Ram Navami celebrating the birth of Lord Ram all over the nation.

This Covid pandemic has surely reduced the buzz of this festival nationwide but the enthusiasm of it is still very high in the hearts of every Indian.

List Of 5 Wholesome Delicacies For Navratri 2021

1. Kuttu Ki Poori And Sweet Curd

This is my all-time favorite and the go-to recipe for Navratri fasting, along with being healthy it brings to your stomach the feeling of fullness even after having a small portion of it.

Ingredients

  • Kuttu Flour- 250gm (Serves 2)
  • Potatoes- 2
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee or Vegetable Oil (for frying)
  • Sugar
  • Curd

Recipe

  • Boil the potatoes and keep them aside to cool
  • After the potatoes have cooled mash them properly
  • Take Kuttu Flour in a bowl, add a little bit of salt (you don’t have to make pooris taste salty so add just a little bit), mix well
  • Add a small portion of potatoes to the Kuttu flour mix and try to bind, keeping adding the mashed potatoes to the mix till the flour binds together giving it a dough consistency
  • Apply a little ghee on your palms and take a small portion of dough in your hand and try making pooris (Rolling base and pin won’t be of any help here, so try shaping pooris with your hands)
  • Add the pooris to the ghee, which has been heating on high flame and deep fry them
  • Serve the Poori with sweetened Curd (add sugar to curd according to your taste)

2. Rajgira Pakodi

If you wish to taste something light try this. This recipe is perfect for snacking during fast.

Ingredients

  • Rajgira Flour- 250 gms
  • Water
  • Black Pepper powder
  • Potatoes
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee or Vegetable Oil to deep fry

Recipe

  • Take a bowl add Rajgira flour to it, add salt, a pinch of black pepper powder, and a little bit of ghee or oil
  • Add water to mix till you get a pasty consistency
  • Chop potatoes the way you like
  • Add these diced potatoes to the slurry
  • Deep fry them on medium flame till it turns golden brown
  • Here you get a crispy set of Rajgira pakodas that you can enjoy with a cup of tea

3. Kuttu Tikki Chaat

My Navratri fasting is just because of this delicacy that I drool over. This recipe comes from my mother’s cook book and here is all about it.

Ingerdients

  • Kuttu Atta- 500gm (Serves 4)
  • Boiled Potatoes- 6
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped coriander
  • Chopped Green Chillies
  • Ghee or Vegetable Oil For frying
  • Tamarind- 100 grams
  • Sugar
  • Curd- 500 grams

Recipe

  • In a bowl add boiled potatoes and mash them, add chopped green chilies, chopped coriander, a salt (as per taste) to it and refrigerate it for an hour
  • In another bowl take Kuttu Flour and add water mix them to make a thick slurry
  • Turn the mashed potato mix in small and round patties
  • Dip the potato patty into the thick kuttu slurry, further transfer the patty into the pan which has oil or ghee heating on medium-high flame, fry till the patty turns golden brown
  • Add 100 ml water to 100 grams of tamarind add sugar or jaggery to it and add salt to taste and keep it on medium flame to boil, once it is done keep it aside and let it cool. After the mix cools down mash it with your hand and strain it in a bowl.
  • Take Fried patty in a serving plate add a generous amount of curd and tamarind sauce to it and enjoy the meal

4. Sabudana Khichdi

This is one of the most preferred recipe for any fasting and here is the recipe of this classic recipe.

Ingredients

  • Sabudana- 250gms (Serves 3)
  • Potatoes-2 (Medium)
  • Tomato- 2
  • Cumin seeds- 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger- 1 inch
  • Lemon
  • Chopped Coriander
  • Ghee or Vegetable Oil- 3 tablespoon
  • Chopped Green Chilies
  • Fries peanuts
  • Sugar – 2 teaspoon

Recipe

  • Soak the Sabudana overnight
  • In a pan add Ghee or Vegetable Oil, let it turn hot
  • Once the oil turns nice and hot add cumin seeds, crushed ginger to it let it cook for 10-15 secs
  • Add Chopped potatoes to it, and let them cook properly
  • Once potatoes are done add finely chopped green chilies and finely chopped tomatoes together
  • Once Tomatoes get cooked add Sabudana and mix all together
  • Further add sugar and salt to taste, mix and cover it and keep it aside
  • Open the lid after 5 min, squeeze half-a-lemon to it add chopped coriander to it and you’re done
  • Plate the dish and finish it with fries peanuts

5. Crispy Potato Wedges

Be it fasting of not this is one of the most preferred recipe by the masses. Let’s have a look.

Ingerdients

  • Potato- 6 (Serves 2)
  • Chopped Green chilies
  • Chopped Coriander
  • Lemon
  • Ghee or Vegetable oil- 3 tablespoon

Recipe

  • Boil the potatoes and refrigerate them for 5-6 hours
  • After 5-6 hours peel the skin off and cut the potatoes into wedges
  • Heat Ghee or Vegetable oil on high flame
  • Add the wedges to the oil and deep fry them till the skin turns tight, post this transfer the wedges to a bowl with tissue paper in it to absorb excess oil
  • After few minutes add the once fried wedges to oil again and fry them on high heat, take the wedges out once they get beautiful golden brown color
  • Take a serving plate add fried wedges, chopped green chilies, chopped coriander, salt to taste, and a teaspoon of lemon juice, and enjoy the meal
