Nagpur latest news- India’s first inter-state translocation of tigers from state Madhya Pradesh to Odisha was suspended on Wednesday. This is suspended by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), which is a statutory body under MoEFCC monitoring tiger reserves. when it was found that ‘pre-requisite conditions for the reintroduction of tigers were not followed’.
According to the report, the Authority has asked the official member to improve the ground situation as per Authority guidelines and protocol. also to shift the captured tigress meant for reintroduction to Ghorela Centre at Kanha Tiger Reserve located in MP.
if we go through with the status of tiger report 2018′, states that the tiger population has increased at the national level from 2,226 in the year of 2014 to 2,967 in the year of 2018, and states such as MP, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, and Kerala showed progress whereas Odisha showed a blank over the same time period.
In September-November 2017, NTCA approved a project to augment and recover the population of tiger in the Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Odisha. Apparently, this permission was granted for capturing the two tigers from Tiger reserves in MP. Nagpur latest news, Authority also took the technical help of the Wildlife of India, Dehradun.
Actually, one of the tigers was lost due to poaching and the other one had to be in ‘Caged’ because of protests from the locals in the state. Last year the tigers, Mahavir and Sundari were shifted from the wilds of MP.
SOPs were violated as well as funds which meant for the safety of the translocated tigers were also diverted from specified activities without having authorization from NTCA. Even after the release of the substantial funds, this project didn’t show any significant input in it.
Pre-requisite conditions for the reintroduction of the tigers in STR which is prey augmentation, creation of inviolate space, eco-development, capacity building for staff and enhancement of protection couldn’t achieved the in spite of such sufficient fund availability and technical support to the habitat.
