Refusing Rides to Cost Cab Drivers INR 1,000 in M.P.

One one hand using application based cab in different cities of India has made our lives much easier. On the other hand, the sudden cancellation of cabs by the drivers has also made getting cabs a challenging one. Law has been constructed by M.P. government to fine cab drivers who are refusing rides after booking.

Fine of INR 1,000 for refusing rides

The state Transport DepartmentDeputy Secretary, Niyaz Ahmed Khan said;

“Once the rules come into effect, cab drivers will have to take a license from the government after paying a certain amount as fee and fulfill some obligations.”

No more exploitation of passengers

As the news rules and regulations have been formed, cab drivers will be obligated to follow the same. We can now conclude that there would be no further exploitation of cab passengers and proper service would be given to the passengers. The drivers will not be refusing rides suddenly.

How will the cab drivers be tracked?

The government will now start to maintain all the records of the rides on a digital platform. If any cancellation or any other exploitation will be experienced by the passenger, the fine will be imposed or license of the driver will be seized.

Greater safety for all the cab passengers

Witnessing the ever increasing rate of crime with cab passengers, M.P. government will now installs GPS. This will help the officials to know if a cab has stopped mid-way or taking a different route.

Bhopal Travels Association Secretary, Rajkumar Kanojia said;

“Although travel operators and drivers cancel the rides in our case, it’s a positive decision. If a booking has been made and the operator has cancelled the ride at the last minute, they should be held accountable.”

Cab drivers on this new law

“If the pick-up location is far away, we have to cancel the ride. It happens several times that a rider awaits the cab at a location different from the one entered in the application, so we have to cancel a ride if the road leading to a pick-up location is too narrow or congested.”

“We get a cancellation fee only if the rider doesn’t turn up at the pick-up location even after fie-minutes. Sometimes, we don’t even get that.”

It seems that, once this law will be applicable on the cab drivers for refusing rides, there will be no further exploitation. This initiative will also make app-based application services more safe for passengers.
