Relations between India-Malaysia disrupted as #BoycottMalaysia trends

It is very common for hashtags to trend on social media these days, especially when hate is involved. But there is something different about #BoycottMalaysia trending on twitter. In a speech at the UN General Assembly, the Malaysian Prime Minister has enraged few Indians online. He mentioned in his speech, that India has ‘invaded and occupied’ Jammu & Kashmir. He also called the current situation a ‘humanity-crises’.

What is #BoycottMalaysia?

It was an unlike dispute between countries that were never even engaged in an argument before. It was the scenario of the current going 74th UN General Assembly in New York. The current Prime Minister of MalaysiaMahathir Bin Mohamad sparked the controversy. While giving his speech he said that there is a serious violation of UN Resolution going on in Jammu & Kashmir. He remarked it as a un-humanitarian way of abrogating Article 370. Other than Jammu and Kashmir he also mentioned the situations in Turkey and China.

The speech did not go well with the citizens too well. As people online got aware of his remarks, the Indian derived the #BoycottMalaysia. Since then the hashtag has been trending.

As the hashtag picked up the pace, the Malaysian citizens too started replying to the hashtag. The replies to BoycottMalaysia eventually started the online war between people of both countries. What is more surprising in this conflict is that both countries have shared friendly relations in the past and never have had a conflict.

What do people want?

People are urging other Indians to postpone or if possible cancel their trips to Malaysia as a protest to what their Prime Minister said in the UN General Assembly. Other than this, people are also asking people to boycott the products that are being imported from Malaysia like Palm Oil. Thus attacking their main bases of Economy.
Reply from the Malaysian people

The instant reply on the #BoycottMalaysia added fuel to the fire. The people held the UN resolution for ‘Jammu & Kashmir’ and ‘Rohingyas’ in Myanmar as regardless. They claimed that in both cases the related countries have not compiled to the resolution.

Whatever may be the end to this online war, currently the hashtag BoycottMalaysia is trending and pouring hatred every second.
