Shravan 2020: According to the Hindu scriptures, Vedas and Puranas this pious month of Shravan are wholly dedicated to worshiping Lord Shiva for success, marriage, and prosperity. This month begins with the spell of first rain that is witnessed by the nation and ends on the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan. Shravan this year will begin on 6th July 2020 and will end on 3rd August 2020.
The month of Shravan is very famous for, fasting every Monday known as Sawan ka Somvaar, Kanwariya, epic spirituality, and ruckus over getting a chance to deliver offerings to Lord Shiva. But amid all, the purity and spirituality within us reach an epitome that can never be felt deliberately. Significance of Shravan
This month of Shravan is dedicated to Shiva. But this embarking does not pop out from a random choice. Rather it has a spiritual significance linked to it. Samudra Manthan, about which we all might have heard, in some of the other scriptures. This event described in Hindu scriptures says that “A Sagar Manthan took place to hunt for Amrit, between Rakshasa and Devataas which resulted in giving 14 rubies. Amongst those 14 rubies, 13 were divided amongst Rakshasa and Devatas.
But the last ruby named Halahal remained untouched. Because that was very vicious and poisonous. And had the potency to destroy the entire universe. In order to control this disaster. Shiva took the charge and drank the entire Halahal and held that in his throat. After which he came to be known as Neelkanth because of the blue color of that poison.
To relieve him, devtaas drenched him with water from the ocean. And that is how the ritual of offering water and milk to Shiva linga began. Since the entire series of events occurred in the month of Shravan. Every year this month is meant to pay tribute to Lord Shiva.
Famous practices during this month
Fasting
Being one of the most spiritual months of the year. People believe that fasting in this month is more powerful than in other months. Every Monday and Tuesday of this month people dedicate to fasting. Monday dedicated to Lord Shiva and Tuesday to Lord Parvati.
Along with fasting, chanting Shiva Chalisa is considered beneficial because that helps to enhance spirituality within, by filling in with the power of the words that are orated.
Kanwariya
This is one of the most insane practices in this spiritual month. People from various states and cities. Walk to any of the nine important shivling. They carry two pots of water at the beginning of their travel and keep carrying it till they reach their destination. And those two water pots are carried as an offering to Lord Shiva.

Crowd never seen before
Any temple that possesses Shiv linga, every day will have a significant amount of pilgrims who might be standing in queue for a good number of hours just to deliver their offerings and pray to Shiva. On Monday’s the entire picture changes, the crowd increases to 5 folds and it gets difficult to stand till you get a chance to deliver your offerings.
