Kerala Nurse: Day by day the pandemic COVID-19 has been spreading its clutches all over the world and some of our front line workers including doctors, nurses, police, etc have also been infected by the virus while looking after other people. The situation of COVID-19 in Kerala is getting a tough day as by as a number of people infected in the state reached 3,726 with 9 deaths.
Despite the surging number of Coronavirus cases in Kerala, people living in the state have shown great trust on the Kerala government. It was just recently that one of the nurses, Reshma Mohandas, a 32-year-old medical worker in Kerala hospital who was looking after the Corona infected patients in the ward was infected by this dangerous virus. It was on the day when she was being taken to the isolation center when she said;
“I will leave this room within a week after defeating you.”
She also added;
“I posted that message in the Whatsapp group because I have full faith in Kerala’s health system. It is world-class.”
Reshma Mohandas, Kerala nurse- the Super Woman
Well, Reshma Mohandas actually did win this fight against Coronavirus within a week. She was in the isolation center at the Medical College Hospital. Reshma was the nurse who had treated the oldest Corona infected patient in Kerala- the 93 years old man, Thomas Abraham, and 88-year old Mariyamma. After recovering from COVID-19 last Friday, she is now under a 14-day quarantine period. Reshma said that that she must have got infected to COVID-19 from the couple whom she was treating in the isolation ward due to close contact.
Reshma is being called a superwoman across India because she has said that she will resume her work, i.e; treating patients in the COVID-19 ward after her quarantine period ends. When the media approached her to ask that what makes her so passionate about her work, she said; “I love taking care of people and their needs.”
Stay indoors and stay safe
As we are witnessing a surge of thousands of Coronavirus cases with each passing day, it is us who can protect ourselves from this virus. Although the process of unlocking had been started in India since 8, June, we will have to maintain social distancing and as much as isolation possible to stay healthy and protected.
Even when she herself was admitted to the COVID-19 ward, she said that she made sure that she did a lot of walking in the isolation ward to keep herself active throughout the whole week.
Reshma Mohandas, the Kerala nurse has shown extreme courage and faith in herself and the health facilities of her state and has finally won her battle against COVID-19. Talepost hopes to share more such stories of victories.
