1. The Blind Cricket World Cup was won by India’s national blind cricket team in 2018.
The start of 2018 has bought victory to the country as India’s National Blind Cricket Team by playing against Pakistan at UAE’s Sarjah Cricket Stadium. This is one of the most talked about event in India. The Indian team bagged the World Cup and regained its tittle which, they had earned back in 2014.
2. The plastic ban in full effect in the state of Maharashtra
Maharashtra has issues a complete ban on the use of plastic and thermocol products in the state with effect from 23 June. The fine for violating this ban for the first and second time is 5000 INR and 10,000 INR respectively. Third time people violating this rule can be fined up to 25,000 INR and three months of prison.
3. Mithali Raj became the first Indian cricketer to score 2000 T20I runs
India’s Women’s T20 Asia Cup tournament which took place in June 2018. India’s Women Cricket Team’s Captain, Mithali Raj has set a record of becoming the first Indian cricketer to make 2000 T201 runs, which have not even been met by the Skipper of the Indian Cricket team, Virat Kohli. 4. Dipa Karmakar becomes the first Indian to bag Gold at a Global Event
Dipa Karmakar has created history by winning Gold medal at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup held in Turkey in July. She achieved his splendid feat results when she returned to the court after recovery of her knee injury.
5. Sonam Wangchuk and Bharat Vaswani won the Ramon Magsaysay Award
The two Indians to win the Ramon Magsaysay Award are Sonam Wangchuk and Bharat Vaswani. Bharat Vaswani, a psychiatrist has been awarded for making his significant contributions towards mentally-ill street people. On the other hand, Sonam Wangchuk who was the character inspiration for the Amir Khan’s role in 3 Idiots was awarded for making use of science to improve the lives of the youth of Ladakh.
6. Sunil Chhetri became the third highest scorer in the world
The international continental cup was held this year in India. In final match of football held in the country, the football team captain, Sunil Chhetri helped India winning the match. The total number of goals made by Chhetri has come up to 64 and thus he ranks as the third highest scorer in the world after, Cristiano Ronaldo (85) and Lionel Messi (65). 7. India get its first ever all-female SWAT team
36 women’s team after undergoing through 15 days of rigorous training, in which they were taught to use different weapons, counter terrorism and learned Krav Maga. This team has left a mark on the history of India as they are the members of the first ever all-female SWAT team. Thus, making up to the list of top 10 great things happened in India.
8. Indian Air Force gets its first woman fighter pilot
The 24-year-old Avani Chaturvedi became the first woman in India to fly a fighter jet alone in February. Now, India would also be listed along the countries such as USA, Israel and the UK were women play an active combat role. 9. An Indian-origin engineer won an Oscar
In the earlier March, this year, an Indian-origin engineering, Vikas Sathye was a part of the team that won Oscar for science and technology. Sathaye and his team’s innovation of the Shotover K1 , has been regarded as an important breakthrough in filming mid-air sequences and was used in movies such as Dunkirk and Guardians of the Galaxy among others. 10. World’s first thermal battery plant was built in Andhra Pradesh
The world’s first-ever battery plant was unveiled in Andhra Pradesh. It has been manufactured by Bharat Energy Storage Technology (BEST) Private Limited, and is aimed at increasing energy production by the means of renewable resources. This is surely one of the top 10 events in India this year.
