UP Police takes legal action to check illegal foreign nationals in the state

UP Police has taken an initiative to maintain the Internal security of the state. Uttar Pradesh Police takes action to recognize Bangladeshi and other foreign nationals living illegally in the state. The identified people will be deported back to their country in a “time-bound manner”. In a way, the exercise can be considered similar to Assam NRC.

Mr. Singh clarified the move “has nothing to do with” the NRC. Bangladeshis and foreigners who have been illegally living in the State would be identified and their documents will be verified. Those whose documents will be found to be false would be deported.

“The move was important from the point of “internal security” in the State”, DGP O.P said in a circular issued to all district police chiefs. Its directions should be taken with “all seriousness,” he said.

According to sources, there is a large number of Bangladeshi living illegally in different parts of the state. Some of them have even gone underground. Also, a large concentration of beggars in the state is Bangladeshi. Some have become rag pickers and garbage collector in small colonies.

The state police have been ordered to trace such illegal migrants in different areas, such as railway stations, bus stands, slum areas and streets. Further, their verification will be carried out through video.

Document Verification

Booths have been set for manual paper checks. Any fake document can be canceled by the Police on a ‘priority’ basis. The Police have also been directed to punish any government official who has allegedly helped any migrant to avail such documents illegally.

Their verification will also be done through scanning fingerprints and a district-wise data will be maintained for further records. Several business corporations and construction agents are ordered to mandatorily keep a record of their labors.

Recently, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had appreciated the Assam NRC and decided to launch a similar move in his state if needed. According to him, Assam exercise was important for “national security”.
