The name COVID-19 was given to the pandemic coronavirus by the World Health Organization. It was on 11 February 2020 that WHO decided to name the disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS- CoV2. This life-taking disease was spread to the whole world through the city of Wuhan, China in the year 2019 in November.

The reason why diseases are often named differently as compared to their name is to start the spread of awareness, prevention, precaution and cure to the disease. The full form of COVID-19 is coronavirus disease of 2019 This was not the first time that any disease was named differently than its virus name. One another example of such type of nomenclature is AIDS is the disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus.
