Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee dies at 93

The 16th of August would be one of the darkest days in the history of India. The well-known and one of the most loved prime ministers of India, Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is no more with us. Atal Ji was admitted to the AIIMS hospital in New Delhi post considering his severe health conditions. He was 93 when he took his last breath.

Later in the evening, a statement was issued by the authorities of AIIMS hospital. The released statement read, “It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at 05:05 pm on August 16, 2018.” According to the doctors of the hospital, Atal Ji was doing fine and his condition was stable. It was in the last 36 hours that his condition became critical and deteriorated in the extreme sense. He was then put on the life support system.

The AIIMS doctors revealed further, “Shri Vajpayee was admitted in AIIMS on 11.06.2018 and was stable in the last 9 weeks under the care of a team of AIIMS doctors. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated over the last 36 hours and he was put on life support systems. Despite the best of efforts, we have lost him today. We join the Nation in deeply mourning this great loss.”

Atal Ji had a history of illness and was not able for quite a long time. He was diabetic in nature and only had one functional kidney. He also suffered an attack in the year 2009 which largely affected his cognitive abilities. He was admitted to AIIMS on the 11th of June with the critical symptoms of infection of kidney tract and a urinary tract along with low urine output and congestion in the chest.

Many known faces including Narendra Modi, M.Venkaiah Naidu, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and many other BJP ministers visited the hospital to meet the legendary politician. The chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal also visited the hospital to have a look at Atal Ji’s condition.

Soon after the statement of the hospital, Shri Narendra Modi tweeted, “India grieves the demise of our beloved Atal Ji. His passing away marks the end of an era. He lived for the nation and served it assiduously for decades. My thoughts are with his family, BJP Karyakartas and millions of admirers in this hour of sadness. Om Shanti.”

According to L.K. Advani, “Atal Ji will be remembered as the pioneer of the first-ever stable non-Congress coalition government at the Centre and I had the privilege of working as his deputy for six years.” Manmohan Singh stated, “Vajpayee Ji stood among the tallest leaders of modern India, who spent his whole life serving our great country. His services to our nation will be remembered for a long time to come.”

It is one big loss to India which would never be recovered. I pray that the Atal Ji rests in peace.
