Saina Nehwal’s Biopic: Sharaddha to Play Sania in her upcoming film
You must have heard time and again that it is raining biopics in Bollywood at the present. This is because it is indeed true as is evident from the recent releases such as Diljit starrer Soorma, Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanju, Akshay Kumar starrer Gold as well as Sushant Singh Rajput starrer M.S. Dhoni, to name a few. With so many biopics doing the rounds, there are also reports of biopics on Sania Mirza where most probably Parineeti Chopra will play the lead and Saina Nehwal where Shraddha Kapoor is to play the lead role.
What has kept Shraddha Kapoor so busy?
Shraddha Kapoor has had a busy year so far with shooting and promoting multiple films. At present, she has been across cities to promote her upcoming film with Rajkummar Rao, Stree. Other than this, she also has a slated release with Shahid Kapoor, Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Reports have now surfaced that the multi-tasker is back to training for the Saina Nehwal biopic. Though there were statements that Saina Nehwal was not happy with the way Shraddha was preparing for the role and wanted Deepika to take over, there have not been any such official statements. In fact, going by the current scene, it is Shraddha who is
back to the grind.
How difficult is it to switch between so many roles at once?
When Shraddha Kapoor was contacted by a famous news portal and asked about her hectic work schedule, she had reportedly said that it is definitely challenging and tiring but then it is also good in a way because she gets break from the monotony of constantly doing just one character’s role and bits. Well, going by this, we too feel that the young actress has been able to make a mark for herself through her hard work and talent acting, dancing and
singing.
When is the shooting for the biopic going to begin?
Coming to the most important question, the shooting for the Saina Nehwal biopic is going to begin next month, that is, September 2018. Although Shradhha is already through with 36 sessions of training, it seems like the destination is still far. This is why she’s been saying that playing a champion needs time. Directed by Amol Gupte, the badminton scenes will mostly be shot next year and not before that.
Would Deepika Padukone be a better choice for Saina Nehwal Biopic?
Well, we cannot help but wonder if Deepika would actually be a better choice. Deepika has herself been a badminton player since childhood and her father Prakash Padukone is also a national level player. Saina has also been friends with Deepika and there is a major chunk of the population that feels Deepika’s height, physique and prior knowledge of the sport would be able to do more justice to Saina. It would have been great if Deepika could portray the star player on screen who was the first Indian to win a medal at the Olympic games for badminton.
Let’s hope the shooting starts soon and by the end of next year, the biopic reaches the audience. Only after watching it will we be able to give a verdict.
